iOS 7 is expected to bring a complete refresh to Apple's software, but as things stand, it is running late. The iPhone 5S will probably have some new fancy features. iOS 7 is due to have a major UI refresh, thats why the development has been behind the schedule. Each year Apple treats its mobile device platform to a new version of the operating system, that will often bring new features to the hardware it will be running on. There have already been a number of rumours for iOS 7 leading up to its release, and now the design is tipped to wow users but is running late in the build up to its eventual availability. There has been a lot of speculation about the next major mobile software release from Apple recently, and now new reports have come in, they are claiming that iOS 7 is undergoing a massive redesign. This new design has led the company to allow engineers to test the software in public but have provided polarized filters so they can be placed onto the mobile devices. These filters will prevent anyone from the general public spying on the features of iOS 7 as they only allow viewing when looked at directly. Sources are also claiming that the work that is going on by Jony Ive is pleasing a lot of people at the company, but those that love rich textures will not be as happy. As you may all remember, Scot Forstall left Apple last year, he was the head of iOS design. Since then, Jony Ive has taken over and many people expect some new looks for the software. Apple is expected to create less restrictions around the home screen in order to give users more functions with fewer clicks. One of the rumored additions will be unlocking the grid system that the home screen is currently built around. If this occurs, users will be able to place icons literally anywhere on the screen rather than having to choose a location within the iPhone grid. One feature that's less likely would be the inclusion of widgets on the iPhone homescreen. For years, Android has allowed users to perform sophisticated functions straight from the home screen of various devices using what are known as widgets - small apps that run directly on the home screen. In order for Apple to give users more freedom to customise their home screens, the company would have to significantly alter the way that its operating system has worked for years.
The iPhone 6 will likely be loaded with the next generation of Apple's mobile operating system, iOS 7. Rumors indicate that iOS 7 will most likely be unveiled at Apple WWDC 2013, especially since Google is assumed to be releasing the next version of its mobile operating system, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, just one month before. Apple will be playing catch up in a big way as we head into the final half of the year, and we can't imagine that the company would continue to promote its year-old operating system, iOS 6, or the way it has been looking ever since it's been created. It's difficult to say with any certainty what type of features will be included in iOS 7, but most people expect Apple to take a few cues from the operating system's main competition, Android, as it has in the past. That means that Apple users are likely to see a variety of additions that include easier file-sharing between users, better notifications systems, actionable notifications (such as archiving e-mails from the notifications menu or responding to texts), true multitasking and much more. Aside from a better display and operating system, the iPhone 5S is likely to include plenty of features that are true innovations, meaning that no other phone on the planet will have them. While IR Blasters and ultra-high resolution screens have become common-place in the smartphone market, we suspect that Apple will provide a few innovations of its own. One of the most intriguing new features we suspect will be included in the iPhone 5S is haptic or tactile feedback. The iPhone 5S features list, like everything else surrounding the device, is impossible to report with any certainty, but if Apple patents are any indication, there's a strong chance that Apple will make it easier to use touchscreen devices by providing some level of tactile feedback.
The iPhone 6 is shrouded in secrecy, which should be no surprise to Apple fans. The Cupertino, Calif.-based company is well-known for keeping the lid on all of the surprises it typically saves for special media events or its developer conference. It's still unclear whether the iPhone 6 release date will take place at WWDC, Apple's annual developer conference, but most reports indicate that Apple will release an incremental update to the iPhone 5 called the iPhone 5S rather than releasing a brand new device. Although the iPhone 6 release date is uncertain, the smartphone's features are expected to be significantly more sophisticated than the iPhone 5. Among one of the most-hyped features to be included in the iPhone 6 is the display. The iPhone 6 display will, without question, be significantly better than the iPhone 5's. People are confident about this rumour, mainly because of the rate at which Android smartphones have been increasing the sharpness and colour quality of the displays on flagship smartphones. In order to keep up with the competition, it will be essential for Apple to release a smartphone with an incredibly sharp and beautiful-looking screen.
The iPhone 6 display could be one of the first phones to include the long-awaited bendable screen technology, that has been previewed at technology conferences around the world. Although Apple has never confirmed or displayed the bendable screen technology at any major conferences, it's no secret that all of its competitors are pursuing the technology. Samsung is one of many brands to show off bendable screen technology several times before, and people expect it to eventually be worked into smartphones. Apple recently revealed plans to pursue bendable displays in a patent filing. "Apple states that one of the advantages of using a polyimide substrate is that the AMOLED display screen can be heated. That allows the AMOLED display screen to be configured into any number of shapes. Moreover, once the heat is removed, the AMOLED display will then "remember" the original shape even if temporarily rolled up or flattened out," reports Patently Apple, which details the technology at length in a recent report. Other reports suggest that Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Inc., was working on the iPhone 5S before he died.
The changes being made to the mobile operating system have meant work on the software is running behind schedule, so the company has pulled employees that were working on OS X 10.9 over to join the iOS 7 team; to make up the lost time. We will have to wait and see what Apple has in store for iOS when it should be unveiled at WWDC 2013 in June, but hopefully the software will have fewer issues when compared to the current version, which has been hit with a number of bugs.
